Oat is an importantly high-quality forage in China. However, lodging is one of main factors limiting the high and stable yield and premiumization of oat forage. This review systematically organizes and analyzes the related literature regarding lodging, and summarizes the impact of lodging on oat production. Lodging can reduce the accumulation of nutrients, grain yield, feeding value, and storage quality of oat grass. The factors that affect oat lodging mainly include internal factors such as oat morphological characteristics, stem mechanical properties, lignin metabolism, as well as external factors such as natural conditions and cultivation measures. At present, the main methods for evaluating oat lodging performance include field observation, artificial simulation, and model comprehensive evaluation. Improving the lodging resistance of oat can be achieved through key trait screening, variety cultivation, and optimization of high-yield cultivation measures. |
