In order to improve the international competitiveness of Chinese wheat, the relevant data, such as wheat harvest area, yield, trade, cost-benefit and policy support intensity, were collected through the official website of USA Department of Agriculture(USDA) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(FAO) statistical database, the compilation of national cost-benefit information of agricultural products and World Trade Organization(WTO) policy support documents. The current situation of Chinese wheat production was summarized and the existing main problems were analyzed. The results showed that Chinese wheat production has obvious characteristics of high input, high yield and low income. The increase of labor and land costs keeps Chinese wheat planting costs high and the average profit of wheat in China showed a sharp downward trend, but it was always higher than that in European Union and USA.The low input-output ratio of chemical fertilizer and pesticide affects the sustainable development and competitiveness of wheat industry in China.Policy support intensity for wheat industry of China has continued to increase, which is higher than that of USA,the European Union and Canada in recent years.Chinese wheat price is affected by policy, supply and demand, and its competitiveness is weak. In view of the above problems existing in Chinese wheat production, some strategic suggestions were put forward, such as “optimizing the wheat industrial structure, improving Chinese wheat quality”, “improving the large-scale organization level of wheat production and the level of agricultural mechanization, reducing production costs”, “reducing the use of chemical fertilizer and pesticide, improving the use rate of chemical fertilizer and pesticides” and “improving government support policies”. |
