To explore the relationship between specific gravity or porosity and kernel plumpness, test weight and specific gravity of 131 groups of wheat kernels were determined in this research, and the regression equation for test weight and specific gravity or porosity was established.Combining with the relationship between test weight and kernel plumpness, wheat kernel plumpness was quantitatively described by specific gravity and porosity. The results showed that test weight was linearly and positively correlated with specific gravity but linearly and negatively correlated with porosity. The regression equations were yTW=829.84xSG-286.25 (TW means test weight and SG means specific gravity) and yTW=-16.212xP+1 414.2 (P means porosity). The specific gravity ranges corresponding to the plumpness grades of ‘plump’,‘less plump’,‘medium’,‘less shrunken’,‘shrunken’ were ≥1.297, 1.273-1.296,1.249-1.272,1.225-1.248,1.201-1.224 g·cm-3 respectively, and the corresponding porosity ranges of these plumpness grades were ≤38.50%,38.51%-39.74%,39.75%- 40.97%, 40.98%-42.20% and 42.21%-43.44%,respectively. |
